Hockeyhistory.org got a chance to watch Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist Ken Hitchcock this weekend as he came back to his hometown to “give back” at the West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Alberta.  Hitchcock is part of Hyundai Hockey Nation hockey clinics across Canada.  Hitchcock is also scouting for Columbus and plans to return to NHL coaching, but in the meantime he  told Elliot Pap of the Vancouver Sun that he is giving back.  “Giving back. That's what you do. How many chances do you have in life?”  “I love these events, I love them,” Hitchcock said. “This is the grassroots level and I love it.” Read more of Pap’s article, Ex-NHL bench boss Ken Hitchcock goes back to the coaching grassroots

Ken  "Hitch" Hitchcock has a strong historical connection to Edmonton.  He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on December 17, 1951. He coached various levels in the Edmonton area, and later a ten-year stint at the helm of the midget AAA Sherwood Park Chain Gang leading them to an outstanding record of 575-69. Hitchcock assumed his position behind the bench for the WHL's Kamloops Blazers for the 1984-85 season leading them to four consecutive division titles and two league titles (in 1985-86 and 1989-90). In both of the seasons Hitchcock was named the WHL Coach of the Year, and was named the top coach in Canadian major junior hockey in 1990. In six seasons in Kamloops, Hitchcock recorded a 291-125-15 record, which stands as the second best in WHL history. In 1990, Hitchcock left the WHL and began his NHL career which includes a Stanley Cup win with the Dallas Stars and an Olympic Gold medal.
